So if you read the first post on Experiment 2 – Electronic Deposits, you’ll know that we started taking ACH payments – so far it’s working pretty well.
I’d say about 70% of our deposits now come in this way.
We’re still working out the bugs (finding that when someone does a billpay for us from their bank, it can come from an account other than theirs – which causes an ACH we do based on that account to fail), but it’s moving along. Neat to see payments getting processed via receipts on my email. I do miss getting checks in my mailbox instead of just bills :)
Since my bank (Napa Community Bank) is now part of Rabobank, I’m feeling less compelled to stay local – so I’m checking out Chase – looks like I can setup there, maybe even get a better deal using their ACH payment system rather than Green. They have a branch here in Napa and in Petaluma, where my bookkeeper (and my PO box) is located. Handy and cheaper for checks that still come in the mail.
Most clients have no trouble getting it, and of course those who want to can continue to write a check, or even do ACH themselves on my site. This should really help even out cash flow, and remove me as the bottleneck (see 4 hour work week for more on this)
